I'm beginning to worry that I spend too much time concerned with the technological trappings of the world around us. I think Lord Vader put it best when he admonished Imperial Admiral Motti not to be too proud of the technological terror he'd constructed—after all, the ability to destroy a planet is insignificant next to the power of the Force. Or, for that matter, the power of the Internet to slowly suck your life away, gurgling down a series of tubes. But seriously, when you close your eyes at night and just see an endless parade of dancing cell phones, multifunction printers, and digital music players, you can be sure of one thing: your dreams are going to be seriously messed up, man.

So, you may ask, what do video camera glasses, a gaming projector, and a compact bag have in common? Other than all being featured in this week's edition of Gadgetbox, I have absolutely no idea.

Video: Unique Holiday Gift - Birdwatchers' New Tech Tool Provides ...

BIRMINGHAM, Ala., Nov. 15 /PRNewswire/ -- The popularity of birdwatching and backyard bird feeding has exploded in recent years, but hectic work schedules limit how much time birdwatchers can spend enjoying their hobby. Technology is solving that problem while helping bird enthusiasts get a closer look than was previously possible.

The recently introduced Wingscapes BirdCam is a motion-activated, weatherproof camera that takes digital photos and videos of birds. Images can be viewed on a TV or downloaded to any computer, where they can be emailed, printed, or posted to the web.

"The BirdCam gives birdwatchers three things they always need: a close-up view, extra time, and a record of their sighting." says Bart Stephens, Product Manager of Wingscapes and developer of the BirdCam.

Fielding jolts from a great unknown

After months of cryptic trailers and hype in the US, Cloverfield turns out to be almost comforting in its simplicity. It's a short, efficient, terrifying monster movie, no more and no less.

Told solely from the point of view of one digital video camera wielded by one young guy named Hud (TJ Miller), the film records scenes from a seven-hour attack on Manhattan by a Giant Thing. It's the first cellphone-ready action flick.

Delaware gets grant for patrol cameras

DELHI _ The Delaware County Sheriff's Department will use $44,600 in state grants to equip patrol cars with digital video cameras, Sheriff Thomas Mills said Wednesday.

"I am pleased to announce our acceptance of a grant for $19,600, from the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services, under the guidelines of the state Homeland Security program as well as a $25,000 grant sanctioned by Senator John Bonacic in the state budget," Mills said.

Mills said he hopes to have the cameras installed and operational in about a month. He said there are eight or nine cars to be equipped.

"We are waiting so the computers and the cameras can be installed at the same time to save money," Mills said.

The computers will be used to run data, write accident reports and issue traffic tickets, Mills said.

Black Francis Plays Impromptu Gig, Police Intervene

Police had to step in and escort Black Francis away from the scene of an impromptu street performance the former Pixies front man was putting on in Dublin, Ireland, NME reported Monday.

Francis, alias Frank Black, had attracted the attention of about 1,000 Dubliners who amassed in a park Saturday, where he was performing solo material as well as the stray Pixies number. It seems rather than play encores at his normally scheduled shows, Black has taken to playing what he calls pre-cores in random locations, which he lets his fans choose this according to Indie Corner, which also hosts a digital camera video of Blacks police car trying to navigate through a swarm of Irish Pixies fans, who are slapping the car and hollering, rock and roll!

Despite the appearance that Black was being arrested, NME reported that police were only moving him along in an attempt to disburse the crowd.
