Delaware gets grant for patrol cameras

DELHI _ The Delaware County Sheriff's Department will use $44,600 in state grants to equip patrol cars with digital video cameras, Sheriff Thomas Mills said Wednesday.

"I am pleased to announce our acceptance of a grant for $19,600, from the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services, under the guidelines of the state Homeland Security program as well as a $25,000 grant sanctioned by Senator John Bonacic in the state budget," Mills said.

Mills said he hopes to have the cameras installed and operational in about a month. He said there are eight or nine cars to be equipped.

"We are waiting so the computers and the cameras can be installed at the same time to save money," Mills said.

The computers will be used to run data, write accident reports and issue traffic tickets, Mills said.

Boise police defend officer after ombudsman's report

Boise police are defending the actions of a fellow officer after the city's community ombudsman issued a critical report saying the officer violated the department's policy on use of force.Pierce Murphy issued the report earlier this month on a 2006 incident where two sons of Idaho state Sen. Mike Burkett, D-Boise, were cited for vandalizing U.S. flags on the Statehouse grounds. The men, Michael "Ike" Burkett and Thomas Burkett - referred to in the report only as Complainant 1 and Witness 1 - were cited with malicious injury to property. Michael Burkett was arrested for resisting after an officer forcibly put him on the ground for allegedly interfering with his investigation. Michael Burkett was not injured.Murphy's report states the officer, who has not been identified, violated department policy on the use of force and failed to properly record the incident with a digital recorder.Boise police Chief Mike Masterson and Boise Police Union representatives say they disagree with Murphy's findings. The officer properly used force and will not be disciplined, Masterson said.At issue is how to interpret a grainy, dark security camera video of the incident coupled with statements from the Burkett brothers, three Capitol security officers and two Boise police officers.

Nokia N78 - The New Candybar Nseries Device

While the N96 takes the plaudits, Nokia's N78 is probably going to be the bigger seller. With all the high spec features of the Nseries range (including assisted GPS; Carl Zeiss 3.2 megapixel lens with LED flash; and a 2GB ‘pre-fitted' memory card), but in a more traditional candy bar shape, along with an integrated FM transmitter, to pass out your music and video to a nearby radio (eg in a car).

What is clear is the consistent style of the latest Nseries devices has been decided on. With a Multimedia Menu Button and NaviWheel, the physical interface started on the N81 has carried on into the N78 (and the N96), which should please software developers (and give the N-Gage developers some consistency as well). The candy bar format of the N78 is likely to go down very well in a number of territories, including America. This also appears to be the ‘basic' Nseries device which will be in the lower reaches of the price range, helping to get Nokia's ideas of the new mobility to the internet to the mass market.

McLean's wife stays on the move, lawyer says

In affidavits filed in Knox County Fourth Circuit Court, Eric McLean and his divorce attorney, Steve Sharp, allege former West High School student teacher Erin McLean is embarked on a rootless existence with a 19-year-old paramour.

"(Erin McLean) has been to California and then to Austin, Texas, staying in cheap motels and then moving when she is unable to pay the bills," Sharp wrote.

Attorney Bruce Poston, who is defending Eric McLean on charges that he killed Sean Powell, his wife's teenage student and lover, in March, said Tuesday Erin McLean has since surfaced in Boulder, Colo.

Sharp has been trying to serve Erin McLean with divorce papers since September to no avail in an effort to gain custody of the couple's sons, ages 11 and 8.

It was then that Erin McLean fled her mother's Nashville home with the boys after news surfaced that she had lied to get a job as a teacher at a private Christian school and allegedly tried to seduce a 17-year-old student.

VIDEO from Medialink and AXA Equitable: Turning the Big 4-0 Ranks #1

NEW YORK, Feb. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Milestone birthdays, children, marriage, and advice from friends or relatives top the list of reasons why Americans begin saving for retirement. According to the 2008 AXA Retirement Scope Survey, turning 40 is the number one life trigger for most to start saving. Today's working Americans note more factors prompting their decision to save than past generations of retirees.

The survey also reports that people realize it's up to the individual to plan for their retirement. Social Security is something that most people can't rely on to provide a significant portion of their retirement income. When it comes to retirement planning, figuring out what to do, how to do it and when to do it can be confusing, and working with a professional advisor or planner is key.
