| Who you gonna call? Ghost Hunters
CORPUS CHRISTI A team of eight ghost hunters prowled the parapets flanking the Ritz Theater stage Saturday, some holding magnetic field meters while seeking a female usher's spirit that is rumored to have startled balcony patrons decades ago. The Gulf Coast Ghost Hunters also stalked the stage using parabolic microphones and infrared digital video cameras, trying to snare evidence of a stagehand spirit recently reported. "It looked like a man," said Cynthia Saenz, 51, a draftsman who was inside the former picture palace with renovators last week. "Then it just dissipated." Case manager Patrick Zapata and his brothers began investigating paranormal existence in 1992 by taking a cassette recorder and camera to cemeteries at night. "Being touched for the first time by something you cannot see is something I will never forget," said Zapata, 33, a bridge inspector for the state.

Anyone wanting to use a speech recognition app on a Mac can a) virtualize Windows and flip OSes each time text input is required, b) use two computers, or c) settle for the generally less-accurate Mac speech recognition programs out there. MacSpeech expects to change that with the release of Dictate, the first Mac speech recognition application that's based on licensed Dragon technology. CES Thoughts: Microsoft's Future, Intel and AMD, Can HD DVD Recover ...
With Surface, Microsoft is still rolling out its contained offering to food services and healthcare , but it will be partnering to move to the consumer market, which apparently is screaming for this thing. IPTV is the furthest along with major inroads into the U.S. and European markets. This all may be followed by Zune, which seems to have some really good marketing all of a sudden. This provides the promise of a packaged iPod killer with a new solid back end. The Xbox 360 is already expected to move into British Telecom homes as a set-top box, and PC OEMs (original equipment manufacturers) are screaming to license. This represents what could be one of the most significant changes the company has ever seen, the products in the CE segment will improve, I just hope the company learns to more effectively use its sense of humor and doesn't lose it.

Woman denies sex-on-air conditioner accusation
It was Sunday morning, and Arianna Scudelletti says she was simply having a drink with a male friend outside her grandmother's Naples home before walking down to the beach. Naples police, on the other hand, say it was a lot more risqué than that. Scudelletti, of Miami, and her friend Victor Manuael Martes, 24, of Miami Beach, were arrested Sunday morning and charged with disorderly conduct after a man who drove by the home with two children alerted Naples police to two people having sex on an air conditioner, according to arrest reports. Police officers who responded to the scene reported finding both Scudelletti and Martes in “different stages of undress." She said she was wearing bikini shorts and a T-shirt. “We were sitting there talking. We had a bottle of vodka," Scudelletti said in a jail interview Monday night.
China enacts new labour law amid rising discontent
Chinas new Labour Contract Law came into effect at the beginning of the year. The government and state-run media has hailed the legislation as a milestone in the protection of the rights of Chinese workers. In reality, it formally guarantees only the most minimal working conditions, which in many sweatshops will simply be ignored. The key provision is that all workers in China must be employed on the basis of a written contract that stipulates their wage rates and under what conditions they can be fired. Previously, at least 40 percent of employees of private companies had no contract at all. Employers must also contribute to a social insurance or unemployment fund for each worker. Employees who have worked for over 10 years for the same firm or had a fixed-term contract renewed twice are entitled to an open-ended contract.
